Julia Kooser, B.A.
Julia Kooser is a second-year medical student at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. Originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, she did not venture far for her undergraduate studies, as she attended the University of Pittsburgh. Her interests in civic engagement and activism peaked during college, where she worked as an organizer for NextGen America. Her job entailed increasing youth voter turnout during the 2020 election. In Pittsburgh, she also volunteered regularly at Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania, where she would escort patients into the clinic away from protestors. Enfranchising people allows them to be represented in policies and decisions that impact their daily lives. This is why Julia is so excited to be a part of Civic Health Alliance and play a role in helping the people most impacted by policy to play a role in shaping it. In the future, Julia aspires to be a Medicine-Pediatrics physician, and help patients longitudinally with chronic conditions. As a future physician, she hopes to empower patients to become civically engaged, and play a role in the formation of legislative decisions that directly impact their own lives.
Why am I here?
Julia is excited about empowering and mobilizing people in their respective communities. If someone can find their polling place online, or make sure they are registered to vote by the deadline, then that person can help shape policy that impacts their daily life. Julia is excited about working towards equity and justice, and helping people vote is a perfect way to accomplish this goal.
